Children in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and the wider Emirates often live in communities where people arrive and leave constantly. A child can lose two close friends in a single summer and be expected to start September as though nothing happened.
Coaching gives them time to work on that, and on the other things that build up quietly: a heavy school routine, a subject that has become frightening, or the growing awareness that the family may move back to the UK at some point.
This sits within Ruby's wider support for international and expat families, delivered online from the UK.

What children here are often managing
Friendship turnover is the theme that comes up most. Children learn to make friends quickly, and some also learn to hold something back. Ruby and your child work on both the making and the losing, because the second one is what usually goes unattended.
Many families are also thinking ahead to a UK school, either at the next entry point or when a posting ends. Children pick that up long before it is decided, and it helps to give them somewhere to ask their questions about it.
What Ruby and your child work towards
The focus is set with your child, and reviewed with you as sessions progress.
Social confidence, friendships and communication
In a community where the cast changes every year, being able to start again socially is a genuine skill, and it can be taught. Ruby and your child work on how they join in, how they read a group, and what they do when a friendship ends because someone moved rather than because anything went wrong.
For teenagers, Ruby and your child spend more time on honesty in friendships and on the difference between being liked and being known.
Executive functioning, organisation and independence
School days here are often long and followed by sport or clubs, and children who find planning hard tend to run on adrenaline until something gives. Ruby and your child build a routine your child can actually keep, with a clear way to start work and a clear way to stop.
For children with ADHD or executive functioning differences, the systems are designed around how they think rather than around what a planner expects.
This is the focus of the organisation and independence programme.
Emotional regulation, confidence and transitions
Ruby and your child work on catching a feeling early and doing something useful with it, and on rebuilding confidence in a child who has decided they are the one who is behind.
Transitions are a large part of the work here: a new school, a new country, or a return to the UK after years away.
SEN and neurodivergent children
Ruby works with autistic children, children with ADHD, and children whose profiles include demand avoidance, slow processing, or working memory and executive functioning differences. Sessions are adapted to how a child communicates and how much they can manage on a given day.
The approach is neurodiversity-affirming and never about masking. Coaching is education-led support and is not assessment or clinical treatment.
There is more on SEN coaching, and on specialist teaching in SEN tuition.
Tuition and UK school preparation
Tuition for ages 7 to 13 follows the UK National Curriculum and supports children in British curriculum and international schools here. It is used for closing gaps, steadying a difficult subject, and preparing for UK school entry from abroad.
Preparation for selective entry, including interview practice, is covered in 7+, 9+ and 11+ preparation.
How sessions work across the time difference
Ruby works from the UK, generally 9am to 6pm UK time. The Emirates are three hours ahead during British Summer Time and four in winter, so after-school appointments here fall in the middle of her day. Late afternoon and early evening slots are straightforward.
Sessions are one to one over video call at a regular weekly or fortnightly time, with written notes to you afterwards.

About Ruby
Ruby Cole is a qualified teacher with Qualified Teacher Status and a BSc Psychology (Hons), and winner of the London Teacher of the Year Award 2021. She has more than 10 years of experience supporting children and young people in the UK and internationally, including specialist one to one teaching across mainstream, SEN and neurodivergent profiles.
She previously worked as an Assistant Psychologist within a children and young people's clinical psychology service, and has contributed to research with UCL and the Anna Freud Centre. That background is why the work is psychology-informed: sessions start from how a child is developing, what they are carrying and how they learn, rather than from a fixed programme. Ruby works closely with parents throughout, and with a child's school where the family would like her to.
What this is, and what it is not
Ruby offers education-led, psychology-informed coaching and support. This is not therapy, counselling, psychological assessment or clinical treatment. If a child's needs fall outside the scope of coaching, Ruby will always be open with the family and recommend appropriate professional support.
Questions families in the UAE ask
My child's best friends have just left. Can coaching help with that?
Yes, and it is one of the most common reasons families here get in touch. Ruby treats it as a real loss rather than something to get over, and work on both grieving it and rebuilding.
Can you prepare my child for a UK school while we are still here?
Yes. Tuition covers the academic side, including 7+, 9+ and 11+ preparation and interview practice, and coaching covers what the move itself will feel like.
Do you cover Abu Dhabi as well as Dubai?
Yes. Sessions are online, so the whole of the Emirates is covered on the same basis. Ruby is based in the UK and works with families here remotely.
How do you support a child with ADHD?
Practically. Ruby and your child build routines and starting strategies that suit how they think, work on what to do when focus goes, and look at their strengths rather than only the difficulties. This is coaching, not diagnosis or treatment.
Can we do coaching for a term and then stop?
Yes. There is a minimum of four sessions and no obligation beyond that. Some families use a focused block, others keep a regular slot.
Will you talk to my child's school?
With your permission, yes. Ruby is used to working alongside teachers and will only share what you are happy for her to share.
Do you tutor children at British and IB schools in Dubai and Abu Dhabi?
Yes. Tuition is adapted for children in British curriculum, IB and other international schools across the Emirates, and coaching is not tied to any particular school system.
