A psychology-informed approach to learning
Ruby's approach is guided by an understanding of how children think, feel and develop. Drawing on her background in psychology, teaching and supporting children with SEN, health needs and social and emotional challenges, she looks beyond a child's immediate needs to understand what may be influencing their learning, confidence and wellbeing.
Her approach is strengths-based, compassionate and tailored to the individual child. She believes that academic, social and emotional challenges should not be viewed simply as obstacles to overcome. With the right understanding and support, they can become opportunities for children to develop greater confidence, self-awareness and resilience.
Ruby's experience supporting children both nationally and abroad, across education and children's clinical psychology services, alongside her research into autism, attachment and post-traumatic growth, continues to guide the way she works with children and families. She takes time to understand the whole child, recognise their individual strengths and create support that feels purposeful, practical and genuinely personal.

Start with the child
Every child has their own story, strengths and way of learning. Ruby always starts by understanding who this child is, how they learn best, and what helps them thrive. Understanding the learner comes before teaching the learner.
Learning is developmental
How a child learns involves ability and effort, but also confidence, focus, relationships and past experiences. These shape how they engage with new learning. When Ruby understands both the emotional and academic side, she can teach in a way that actually fits.
Relationships come first
Children learn best when they feel safe and understood. A genuine connection between Ruby and the child creates the foundation for learning, because a child who feels understood is ready to try, to listen, and to grow both in confidence and academically.
Build from strengths
Every child has strengths, both in who they are and in what they can already do. Ruby starts by looking for what is working and builds from there. That is how progress follows, because learners move forward fastest when they feel capable and understood.
Growth is for life
Progress is not only about the next assessment. It is about a child becoming more confident, more independent and more aware of how they learn, so they can keep growing long after Ruby's work with them ends. The aim is not to create dependence, but capable, curious young people.

Ruby begins by getting to know the whole child: their strengths, interests, confidence, experiences and what might be getting in the way. Not what is wrong, but what is influencing this child's learning.

Learning happens through relationships. Ruby builds trust and a genuine connection, so a child feels safe enough to engage, ask questions and have a go without fear of getting it wrong.

With understanding and trust in place, Ruby builds: knowledge, confidence, independence, and the strategies that help a child learn well. The support is shaped around the child, not the other way around.

Every programme is delivered personally by Ruby Cole, a qualified teacher combining academic rigour with an evidence-based understanding of how children learn and grow. Ruby is winner of the London Teacher of the Year Award 2021, BSc Psychology (Hons), Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), with ten-plus years working with children nationally and internationally, including specialist 1:1 tutoring, Assistant Psychologist experience, and research with UCL and the Anna Freud Centre.
