What this is

One-to-one coaching for children with SEN, shaped around the individual child rather than a diagnosis or label, and grounded in a genuine relationship.

What this is not

This is not therapy, clinical treatment or a diagnostic service, and you do not need a diagnosis or an EHCP to begin.

Ruby’s psychology-informed approach to SEN coaching is grounded in her understanding of education, the classroom environment and the different demands children and young people face. These might include navigating friendships and social situations, managing transitions, becoming more organised, rebuilding confidence or coping with feeling misunderstood. Ruby focuses on developing a trusting relationship in which each child feels safe to explore what they are struggling with, recognise their strengths, set meaningful goals and develop practical ways to overcome challenges and move forward with greater confidence.

What coaching covers

Psychology and child development

A background in psychology supports careful attention to motivation, confidence, emotional regulation, and how each child feels safest and most ready to learn.

Additional needs and neurodiversity

Sessions are adapted for neurodivergent learners and children with additional needs, without lowering expectations or making a child feel singled out.

Frequently asked questions

Does my child need a diagnosis or an EHCP for SEN coaching?

No. Coaching can help whether or not there is a diagnosis or an EHCP in place.

Is this the same as SEN Tuition?

No. SEN Coaching focuses on confidence, friendships, emotional regulation and the wider challenges that can come alongside a learning difference. SEN Tuition focuses on academic teaching. Many families use both together.

Will coaching ask my child to mask who they are?

No. Coaching supports authentic communication and self-understanding, using strategies chosen with the child that help them feel more capable and understood, not strategies that ask them to hide who they are.

What ages is SEN coaching for?

Ages 7 to 18.

Is this therapy?

No. Coaching is educational and forward looking. It does not diagnose or treat any condition, and it is not a substitute for clinical support. If Ruby believes a child would benefit from clinical support, she will always say so.
