What children in the US often bring to sessions
Moving between states, or from overseas, often means a new school, a new grade structure and a whole new social world at once. Children can look settled from the outside while quietly finding it hard to find their place.
What Ruby can help with
One to one online coaching for whatever your child is finding hard right now, including children who are autistic, have ADHD or are neurodivergent.
How online sessions work for US families
Ruby works from the UK. Sessions are one to one over video call at a regular weekly or fortnightly time, with written notes to you afterwards.
Who this is for
- Families anywhere in the United States, at public, private or international schools
- British and international families who have relocated to the US
- Children who have moved state or school and are still finding their feet
- Teenagers who have gone quiet or lost motivation
About Ruby
Ruby Cole is a qualified teacher with Qualified Teacher Status and a BSc Psychology (Hons), and winner of the London Teacher of the Year Award 2021. She has more than 10 years of experience supporting children and young people in the UK and internationally, including specialist one to one teaching across mainstream, SEN and neurodivergent profiles.
She previously worked as an Assistant Psychologist within a children and young people's clinical psychology service, and has contributed to research with UCL and the Anna Freud Centre. That background is why the work is psychology-informed: sessions start from how a child is developing, what they are carrying and how they learn, rather than from a fixed programme. Ruby works closely with parents throughout, and with a child's school where the family would like her to.
What this is, and what it is not
Ruby offers education-led, psychology-informed coaching and support. This is not therapy, counselling, psychological assessment or clinical treatment. If a child's needs fall outside the scope of coaching, Ruby will always be open with the family and recommend appropriate professional support.
We would wholeheartedly recommend Ruby to any parent whose child is struggling with emotions, friendships or a big transition in their lives.
Questions families in United States ask
Is this therapy?
No. Coaching is education-led and psychology-informed, focused on practical skills like friendships, confidence and organisation. If a child needs clinical support, Ruby will say so openly and suggest the right kind of professional.
How do session times work from the US?
Ruby works from the UK, so session times for US families are agreed individually. Get in touch and she will talk through what could work.
Does my child need to be at a British or international school?
No. Coaching is not tied to any school system. It works for children at public, private, international or home education settings anywhere in the US.
Can coaching help a child with ADHD or autism?
Yes. Ruby has years of experience with autistic children and children with ADHD, and adapts every session to how your child thinks and learns. A diagnosis is not needed.
What is the difference between tuition and coaching?
Coaching gives a child tools and support for the social and emotional side of things, like friendships, confidence, feelings and settling. Tuition is more about academic support, like schoolwork and subjects.
Where to start
Coaching is the heart of the work. Tuition is also available alongside coaching, if your child needs academic support too. Read about online tuition for international families, or the international coaching page for the wider picture.
